The LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Foundation is passionate about raising

awareness within the community of the experience and barriers faced by LGBTQ people in recognising, reporting, and seeking support for Domestic, family and intimate partner

violence and abuse.

About the role:

The Board Director - Communications plays a central role in various Foundation communication channels and ensuring stakeholders receive timely, accurate, and compassionate responses. This role supports the Board by keeping them informed of key developments, oversees the quality and consistency of public-facing content, and helps maintain the organisation’s digital presence.

Stakeholder Communication

  • Manage and maintain the [email protected] inbox as the first point of contact for general enquiries.
  • Respond to stakeholder queries with professionalism, empathy, and clarity.
  • Triage incoming messages and escalate matters to relevant Board members or teams when required.
  • Maintain accurate records of stakeholder interactions and emerging themes.

Board Communication & Reporting

  • When needed, provide updates to the Board regarding stakeholder issues, risks, opportunities, and communication trends.
  • Flag urgent matters promptly and ensure the Board is equipped with relevant information for decision-making.

Content Review & Digital Presence

  • Review and provide feedback on social media content to ensure accuracy, inclusivity, and alignment with the Foundation’s values and messaging.

  • Collaborate with content creators (ThinkHQ) and/or volunteers to maintain a consistent brand voice across platforms.

  • Update website content, including news, resources, events, and organisational information.

  • Monitor digital channels for accuracy, accessibility, and opportunities for improvement.

  • Ensure all communications reflect trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and LGBTQ-affirming principles

Key Selection Criteria

Essential

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt tone for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience in inbox management, customer service, or stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to review and refine content for clarity, accuracy, and inclusivity.
  • Experience updating website content (e.g., CMS platforms such as WordPress, Squarespace, Wix).
  • High level of organisation, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Commitment to LGBTQ inclusion and understanding of domestic and family violence issues (or willingness to learn).

Desirable

  • Experience in not-for-profit or community organisations.
  • Basic design or content creation skills (e.g., Canva).
  • Understanding of trauma-informed communication principles.
