Non-Executive Directors – Disability Services

Help shape the future of a growing regional disability services organisation
Top Gunn Disability Support Services is a locally based, not-for-profit registered NDIS provider delivering personalised supports across the Albury–Wodonga region.
We believe supports should be built around the individual. We provide professional, personable services that enable participants to pursue their goals, exercise choice and control, participate in their communities and live the lives they choose.
As we enter our next phase, we are seeking three voluntary Non-Executive Directors to strengthen the capability and diversity of our Board.
The opportunities
We are seeking Directors with skills or experience in one of these areas:
Finance, Audit and Commercial Sustainability
An experienced finance professional who can assist with strategic financial oversight, budgeting, forecasting, audit, cash-flow management, financial controls, risk, commercial analysis and sustainable growth.
Experience in the NDIS, human services, not-for-profit sector or on an Audit and Risk Committee would be highly regarded.
Lived Experience of Disability
A person with lived experience of disability who can contribute their perspective to discussions about strategy, service design, quality, safeguarding and participant outcomes.
Previous Board experience is not required. Induction, training, reasonable adjustments and support will be provided.
We recognise that no individual represents the experiences of all people with disability. We seek someone who can bring their own perspective while respecting the diverse experiences of others.
Quality, Safeguarding and NDIS Governance
A senior professional with experience in disability services, quality, safeguarding, clinical governance, regulation or another highly regulated human-services environment.
Relevant knowledge may include the NDIS Practice Standards, incident and complaints management, restrictive practices, behaviour support, participant safeguarding, quality systems, regulatory compliance, workforce capability and organisational risk.
What the role involves
Non-Executive Directors provide governance and strategic oversight rather than becoming involved in day-to-day operations.
Responsibilities include:
- preparing for and participating in Board meetings;
- contributing to strategy and sustainable growth;
- reviewing financial, quality, safeguarding and risk information;
- constructively questioning and challenging proposals;
- monitoring organisational performance and participant outcomes;
- supporting accountability and continuous improvement;
- acting in the organisation’s best interests; and
- participating in committees or occasional out-of-session matters where required.
Board meetings are currently held monthly from 4:30 pm to approximately 6:30 pm. Directors should also allow time to review Board papers. The anticipated commitment is approximately 3–5 hours per month.
What we are looking for
Successful candidates will demonstrate:
- sound judgement, integrity and accountability;
- strategic rather than operational thinking;
- an understanding of, or willingness to learn about, directors’ responsibilities;
- willingness to respectfully question and challenge;
- collaborative decision-making;
- appropriate financial literacy;
- commitment to quality and safeguarding; and
- a genuine desire to improve outcomes for people with disability.
Previous Board experience is desirable for the Finance and Quality, Safeguarding and NDIS Governance positions, but is not required for the Lived Experience of Disability position.
Why join our Board?
This is an opportunity to shape a growing regional organisation, contribute professional knowledge or lived experience at Board level, develop governance experience and improve outcomes for people with disability.
Induction and ongoing governance development will be provided.
We encourage expressions of interest from people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, younger and emerging leaders, and people connected to regional communities.
Reasonable adjustments will be available throughout recruitment and while undertaking the role.
How to express your interest
Please provide a brief expression of interest outlining:
- why you would like to join our Board;
- the skills, experience or lived experience you would bring;
- how you could contribute to the organisation’s future; and
- your connection to, or understanding of, disability and/or regional communities.
Please include a current résumé or brief professional biography. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an informal discussion before appointments are considered by the Board.
