About IWCE

IWCE is a volunteer-run charity helping households and community organisations in Sydney's Inner West go solar, add batteries, and electrify their homes. Since 2017 we've helped install over 550 solar systems and 170 batteries. Our mission is to help households take action on climate change by installing solar energy and getting off gas.

Purpose of the Role

This role looks after IWCE's existing volunteer team and smoothly onboards new volunteers as they come through. You'll be the first point of contact for volunteers who register interest, keep people matched to the right activities, and make sure the team feels supported and organised across events, comms and technical review.

Key Responsibilities

Onboarding

  • Respond to volunteer enquiries from people who reach out, and run a simple onboarding process
  • Induct new volunteers on IWCE's mission, process and tools
  • Keep the volunteer register up to date

Rostering & Scheduling

  • Match existing volunteers to roles based on skills, interest and availability
  • Coordinate rosters for information nights, community stalls and events. Roughly 12 events a year.
  • Chase up gaps in coverage ahead of events

Volunteer Support & Engagement

  • Check in with volunteers regularly and flag anyone who needs support
  • Recognise contributions and help volunteers feel part of the team
  • Gather feedback on the volunteer experience and suggest improvements

Coordination with Committee & Project Leads

  • Liaise with the Events Manager, Project Manager and other leads to identify volunteer needs
  • Track volunteer hours and reimbursements where applicable
  • Report on volunteer numbers and coverage to the committee

Skills & Experience

  • Organised and reliable, with good follow-through
  • Clear, friendly communicator, comfortable supporting a small team
  • Proficiency with basic email, spreadsheet and scheduling tools
  • Self-directed work capability
  • Interest in climate action and renewable energy

Formal volunteer management experience is not essential.

What You'll Get

  • A visible, people-facing role in a community-focused charity
  • Experience in volunteer coordination and team support
  • A supportive volunteer committee
  • Direct participation in the local renewable energy transition
