Are you passionate about supporting your local community and helping children and families thrive? Kingston Toy Library is seeking a dedicated Volunteer Treasurer to join our committee and help manage the financial wellbeing of our community-run organization.

About the Role

As Treasurer, you will play a key role in overseeing the Toy Library's finances and ensuring sound financial management. Working closely with the committee, you will help support the ongoing success and sustainability of our organization along with Payroll Officer.

The current Treasurer will facilitate a comprehensive handover and training programme to ensure operational continuity.

Key Responsibilities

  • This is a volunteer online position requiring a minimum commitment of 12 months.

  • Require attending online monthly committee meeting (approx. 1hr session)

  • Work closely with the President and the Toy Librarian to ensure the Treasurer's duties are fulfilled in accordance with the Kingston Toy Library Constitution.

  • Maintain regular communication with the Executive Committee regarding the Toy Library's financial position and activities.

  • Prepare budgets and financial forecasts as required by the Committee.

  • Present monthly financial reports to the Committee, including:

    • Income and expenditure statements
    • Bank reconciliation reports
    • Budget-to-actual comparisons
  • Prepare financial information, budgets, and statements for council grants and other funding applications.

  • Present the annual financial report at the Annual General Meeting (AGM).

  • Coordinate the audit of annual accounts when required, including obtaining quotations and preparing relevant financial records and reports.

  • Act as an authorized signatory on the Toy Library's bank accounts.

  • Review and authorize payments processed by the Bookkeeper/Accounts Assistant and Payroll Officer.

  • Prepare and provide monthly financial updates, including tracking and reporting on grant expenditure.

  • Contribute to Committee discussions, decision-making, and voting processes.

Skills and Experience

  • Genuine interest in supporting a community-based organization.
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Basic bookkeeping, accounting, or financial management knowledge.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Xero and general computer applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively within a volunteer committee environment.
  • Commitment to supporting a community-based organization and its members.

Requirements

The successful applicant will be willing to complete a Police Check (A discounted rate may be available where applicable) and Working with Children Check (Volunteer).
