PRECI develops and shares tools and resources for use across the early childhood intervention sector, some of which involve collecting data from practitioners. We're looking for a volunteer with cyber security and data privacy experience to help us make sure this is done safely, responsibly, and in line with best practice.

What you'll bring:

  • Experience in cyber security, information security, or data privacy/governance (formal qualifications welcome but not essential — practical experience is highly valued)
  • Understanding of data protection principles relevant to Australian organisations, particularly the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act, and ideally some awareness of requirements around health/disability-related data
  • Experience assessing or advising on secure data storage and collection practices (e.g. cloud storage, form/survey tools, databases)
  • Ability to translate technical risk into plain-language guidance for a small, non-technical team
  • Nice to have: experience with research data management, ethics approval processes, or working with not-for-profits/community organisations

What you'll do:

  • Review how PRECI currently collects and stores data through the tools and resources we develop

  • Advise on secure, privacy-compliant options for data collection (e.g. forms, surveys) and storage (e.g. cloud platforms, access controls)

  • Help develop simple, practical guidelines or a data handling policy the team and volunteers can follow

  • Flag any risks in current practices and suggest low-cost, achievable improvements (we're a small volunteer-supported organisation)

This is a meaningful opportunity for someone who wants to use their security/privacy expertise to help a small national network handle sensitive sector data responsibly, supporting better outcomes for children with developmental disabilities and their families.
